WWII Veteran, Frank was born on June 7, 1921, and spent much of his early life in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. His commitment to serve his country began when he enlisted in the US Army on December 28, 1942. He served as a Technical Sergeant, 4th Grade, in Company “C” of the 387th Port Battalion during World War II. His service took him to the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, where he was stationed primarily in New Guinea and the Philippine Islands.

One of the most harrowing moments of his military career occurred in 1944 in the Philippines. Frank’s convoy, consisting of Landing Ship Tanks (LSDs), was attacked by a Japanese submarine near Luzon. The torpedo struck a ship just 50 feet from where Frank was positioned, resulting in the loss of all aboard that vessel. This close call is a testament to the dangers faced by soldiers like Frank during the war.

Frank’s dedication and bravery earned him four World War II medals, a symbol of his honorable service. He was honorably discharged on December 29, 1945, returning home with stories of courage and sacrifice that would shape the rest of his life.
